Biography Petri György 1943 Budapesten született 1966 a Budapesti ELTE-n filozófiát és magyar irodalmat hallgat 1981-85 a Beszélõ c. ellenzéki folyóirat szerkesztõje 1974-tõl írásaiból él; többek között Brecht és Moliè-re drámáit fordítja 1975-88 a demokratikus ellenzékben végzett tevékenysége miatt versei "politikailag elfogadhatatlanok". Három szamizdat kötete jelenik meg. A Szegényeket Támogató Alap (SZETA) alapító tagja. 1989-2000 a Holmi szerkesztõje 2000. július 15. Budapesten hal meg Díjak: Európa kiadó Nívódíja 1986, a hollandiai Mikes kelemen kör díja 1988, Déry Tibor jutalom 1989, 1994, József Attila díj 1990, Év Könyve jutalom 1991, Soros életmûdíj 1992, 1996, Kossuth-díj 1996, Nicolaus Lenau díj 1997
