Biography Matsuo Basho

Nascut intr-o renumita familie de samurai,Basho( pe numele sau adevarat Matsuo Munefusa) a respins lumea in care s-a nascut, devenind un vagabond.Preocupat de Zen, de istoria si poezia clasica chineza.Din 1667 a trait in Edo (actualul Tokyo), unde a inceput sa scrie haiku.
Basho introduce o dimensiune mistica in cele mai multe din versurile sale si incearca sa exprime teme universale prin imagini simple din natura.
Basho a privit poezia ca un mod de viata, crezînd că ea poate fi o sursă a iluminării.
"Sa nu mergi pe urmele pasilor vechilor maestri, ci caută ceea ce au văzut ei.",spunea Basho.
